A first date told me they would be waiting in a café wearing something green. I arrived late, spotted a green jacket at a corner table, and decided confidence was more attractive than hesitation. I walked over, said the silly password we had joked about in our messages, sat down, and stole a piece of pastry from the plate. The person in the jacket looked terrified. I kept smiling because I assumed they were shy. Then their partner returned from the counter carrying two coffees. My actual date was three tables away, wearing a black coat and holding a green umbrella. They had watched the entire performance, including the pastry theft. I apologized to everyone and offered to replace it. The date went surprisingly well, although whenever I got up from the table they asked me to confirm that I planned to come back to the correct person.
