I left my cart beside the cereal aisle for less than a minute. When I came back, a stranger was pushing it away. I grabbed the handle and politely said it was mine. They politely said it was theirs. I became weirdly certain. I pointed at the groceries and said, "I definitely chose that pasta." They pointed at a toddler sitting in the child seat. I somehow continued arguing. Then the toddler held up a sheet of dinosaur stickers and I noticed that the cart handle, the cereal boxes, and most of the stranger's coat were covered in the same stickers. My own cart was visible two aisles behind me, completely untouched. I let go and apologized so many times that the stranger finally handed me the pasta and said, "You seem emotionally attached to this." I put it back. I could not risk meeting them again at checkout while holding the evidence.
